It Was To Be Expected

The New Republic's attack on Kos has gone mainstream with Bobo's full-on assault in the New York Times. (I won't link - "Times Select" stupidity.)

The Keyboard Kingpin, a k a Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, sits at his computer, fires up his Web site, Daily Kos, and commands his followers, who come across like squadrons of rabid lambs, to unleash their venom on those who stand in the way. And in this way the Kingpin has made himself a mighty force in his own mind, and every knee shall bow.

"Squadrons of rabid lambs"? "Every knee shall bow"?

Here's how it is: Politicians don't like blogs because they can't control them and the mainstream media doesn't like blogs because the mainstream media is now being held accountable. It was only a matter of time until these powers launched an attack and the highly successful Yearly Kos convention, with its attendant publicity, was what put the fear into them. Except for a light round-up of what appeared to be just another on-line pissing match I've not written about this. But now that this has hit the op-ed page of the New York Times - sometimes referred to as "the most valuable real estate in journalism" - it's pretty clear that this isn't going to end anytime soon.

But here's the kicker: Jason Zengerle's TNR piece that set this whole thing off may be based on a forged e-mail or even outright fabrication by Zengerle. The e-mail in question was supposedly written by Steve Gilliard who has said that he has no memory or record of writing the e-mail in question. But we do know that Zengerle is a sleaze.

This issue isn't going to go away anytime soon and, indeed, will probably intensify. Fasten your seatbelts.
